Project Title: The First Five Minutes: How Great Leaders Start Difficult Conversations
Project Overview:
The First Five Minutes: How Great Leaders Start Difficult Conversations
Research-Informed Microlearning | Rise 360 | AI-Powered Conversation Simulation
Have you ever needed to address a performance concern but weren't sure how to begin the conversation?
This research-informed microlearning experience helps leaders navigate the critical first five minutes of a difficult workplace conversation. Learners are introduced to the CALM Framework, an original framework grounded in principles from psychological safety, coaching conversations, and research on effective workplace communication.
The experience combines interactive learning in Articulate Rise 360 with a custom AI-powered conversation simulator, allowing learners to practice a realistic workplace conversation, receive adaptive responses from a virtual employee, and reflect on personalized coaching aligned to the CALM Framework.

Rather than using a traditional multiple-choice branching scenario, I intentionally incorporated a generative AI conversation simulator to provide authentic practice. This approach allows learners to respond in their own words, experience realistic conversational consequences, and receive personalized coaching based on the CALM Framework. The design reflects my interest in combining evidence-informed instructional design with emerging AI technologies to create meaningful performance practice.
